Looking at the titles, black and red are the most popular colours used. Furthermore, this connotes danger, blood, darkness and threat. This is common in thriller films, which is why they are used so often in order to notify the audience of what sort of plot is used. It became clear that the most successful titles were the short and snappy ones that had little text, which were almost like a cliffhanger that left the audience thinking, what is going to happen? For example 'panic room' doesn't give much away but it makes people think of what is going to be involved in the plot. On the other hand, 'before the devil knows you're dead' doesn't have the same effect. This is because it doesn't feel as scary with the fancy dress horns and tail. In comparison to this, I believe 'the ring' is much more effective with a ring of what seems to be knife carvings consuming the text giving a claustrophobic feel to the film.
